When the predictor is useful — and when it isn't.

The math is most reliable in the middle of the growth window. Here's the honest accuracy by age:

  • Under 8 weeks — too early. Puppies haven't differentiated from their litter average. Confidence flagged "low".
  • 8–12 weeks — useful for size-band sorting but not a precise number. Toy/small breeds firm up faster than large/giant.
  • 12–24 weeks — sweet spot. Predictions for curated breeds typically ±10% of final adult weight.
  • 24+ weeks — large/giant breeds still adding 5–15% growth. Predictions firm up further; the breed range narrows the result.
This is a planning estimate, not a clinical projection. Crate sizing, food-budget planning, and choosing the right harness fit are appropriate uses. For health concerns about your puppy's growth, your vet's exam is the right next step.

Mixed-breed puppies aren't fully covered in v1 — pick the closest size band. A future update will let you average two parent breeds.
