How we write about your pet.

Last updated: 1 May 2026

Petcro is a small, honest pet-care resource for first-time owners. This page explains how we research, write, and stand behind every guide — and where our money actually comes from.

Who writes the content

Our guides come from five editorial desks — each focused on a species (dogs, cats, fish & aquarium, small animals, exotics). We don't publish under fake personas or ghost-write as imaginary vets — the desk attribution at the top of each article is the team accountable for the post.

Our writing process

We use modern research tools — including AI for source aggregation, drafting assistance, and grammar checks — alongside editorial review for structure, tone, and clarity. When we cite specific clinical figures (feeding amounts, calcium ratios, vaccination timing), we draw on WSAVA, AAFCO, AVMA, Tufts Petfoodology, and peer-reviewed sources.

We're honest about where we are: the depth of source verification varies by post. Posts that have been reviewed line-by-line by a credentialed expert (vet, board-certified veterinary nutritionist) carry a “Vet-reviewed”badge with the reviewer's name and review date at the top of the article. Posts without that badge reflect editorial judgement informed by authoritative sources but haven't yet completed a formal expert review — treat them as general information, not verified clinical advice. We're working through our content cluster-by-cluster; the badge tells you exactly where each guide stands.

What we don't do: claim our content replaces veterinary advice, auto-generate articles unedited, use AI to invent dosages, or fabricate citations. Specific clinical decisions for your pet should always be made with your vet.

Our research standards

CRO — our AI pet assistant

CRO is an AI-powered chat assistant trained on general pet-care knowledge. It's helpful for orienting questions and personalised feeding/cost estimates. It is not a veterinarian and cannot diagnose, prescribe, or replace professional medical advice. We flag emergency questions with a red banner and a phone number for the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center ((888) 426-4435).

Affiliate independence

Petcro participates in affiliate programmes including Rakuten and CJ Affiliate. When you buy through our links, we earn a small commission — at no cost to you.

We write about products we believe in. We do not accept payment for positive coverage, and we will flag affiliate links explicitly (either inline or via an (aff)marker). If a product is listed in “CRO recommends” on a chat answer, it's because it scored well against the question — not because a brand paid for placement.

Corrections

If you spot an error — in a guide, a calculator, or a CRO answer — email us at hello@petcro.com. We correct factual errors within 48 hours and date-stamp significant updates at the top of affected articles.
