When should I switch from puppy food to adult dog food?

Depends on the size your dog will grow to as an adult. Skeletons of larger breeds take longer to finish forming, so they need puppy nutrition longer.

- Small breeds (under 20 lb / 9 kg adult): switch at 9–12 months
- Medium breeds (20–50 lb / 9–22 kg adult): switch at 12 months
- Large breeds (50–90 lb / 22–40 kg): switch at 12–15 months
- Giant breeds (>90 lb / 40 kg — Great Danes, Mastiffs, etc.): switch at 18–24 months

Don't switch overnight. Mix the new food in over 7–10 days — start with 25% new / 75% old, increase by 25% every 3 days. A faster switch usually causes loose stool.

If you're unsure when, ask your vet at your dog's next visit. The packaging dates can be a starting point but your vet sees your specific dog.
